We spent a couple of hours down on Cylinder Beach with “Tappy” – who is known for his ochre sand paintings that are washed away with the tides. He explained his use of the carpet snake, a local traditional totem animal, the quompie shells – which live only in Moreton Bay and are a traditional food source, and the turtle – also traditionally a very important food source. It’s actually against Australian Law to kill any snake.
